Association for Rural & Small Libraries
What We Do
If your library operates with limited staff, a shoestring budget, or a building that makes a matchbox look spacious, ARSL is the organization for you! We specialize in providing timely, right-sized education and resources to help small libraries do BIG things for the communities they serve. Whether it's in our online Advocacy Center, monthly webinars, or at the ARSL Annual Conference, our goal is to provide our members with tools they can implement immediately in their libraries without the need to scale them down to fit.

Join today to connect with our network of more than 2,600 members who understand the challenges and opportunities of rural and small library work. Member benefits include:
-FREE professional development webinars throughout the year, with content tailor-made for small library needs
-FREE peer-led networking groups based on professional interest and geographic region
-Access to our robust member e-list for direct peer support from your fellow library workers
-Special deals and discounts on library-related products and services, including eligibility to join the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union
-Subscription to the ARSL Grant Opportunities Digest, a monthly email that streamlines applicable grant opportunities for rural librarians nationwide

Looking to supercharge your ARSL experience? Join us this September for the ARSL Annual Conference! This year's conference theme is ROOTED IN COMMUNITY! This theme captures the strength, connection, and resilience that define small and rural libraries. We recognize the challenges our communities face, but we also celebrate the creativity and determination that grow from shared roots, empowering our libraries and communities to thrive together.

Join us September 16–19, 2026, in Montgomery, AL for networking, learning, and inspiration tailored specifically to the work you do in the communities you serve.

There are no maximum facility size, staff count, or service population limits for membership, and libraries of all kinds are welcome to join. Dues are assessed on an self-selected sliding scale for both individuals and organizations.

We also welcome members of our business and nonprofit support communities to join as organizational members, and offer unique benefits to help them build meaningful connections with our community of practitioners.
